... About Teeth and Dentistry Print E-mail

  1. Compulsory registration of dentists was introduced in Britain as late as 1921. Before that anyone could call themselves a dentist!
  2. Long ago, people used ground-up chalk or charcoal, lemon juice, ashes or even a mixture of tobacco and honey to clean their teeth. It was only about 100 years ago that someone finally created a minty cream.
  3. A collection of nine rotten teeth from famous mouths such as Florence Nightingale and Queen Victoria fetched £1,840 when auctioned by Bonham's in London.
  4. It is important for children to clean their teeth as early loss of milk teeth will interfere with chewing and affect the child's nutrition. Early loss of milk teeth also leads to drifting of the adjacent teeth which can cause adult teeth to form in irregular positions and result in crowding.
  5. You should try not to clean your teeth within 20 minutes of eating fruit or drinking fruit juice, otherwise you'll be brushing the natural sugars around your mouth (causing dental erosion).
