Eat Yourself Healthy: Part Five - Alcohol (Moderation is the Key) Print E-mail

Drinking too much alcohol and binge drinking can lead to serious health problems - including gastritis (stomach inflammation), ulcers and liver disease as well as social and psychological consequences.

The recommendations for women are a maximum of 2-3 units a day and for men a maximum of 3-4 units a day. A unit is 8g of alcohol, roughly equivalent to a small glass of wine, half a pint of beer or one pub measure of spirits.

Alcohol is also high in calories; a small glass of wine typically contains between 80-90 calories. So if you're looking to lose weight and body fat, limit yourself to no more than 1 unit a day.
